The local community exhibition held in December 2006 at the Market Hall was attended by more than 140 people. Those attending were mostly local residents, including representatives of the Town Council, two SCDC Ward members and members of the Brook Farm Residents Association.
In total, 68 questionaires were completed during the course of the exhibition, many by couples. Those attending overwhelmingly supported the mixed-use proposals. 70% agreed or strongly agreed with the statement "Overall I am/we are in favour of the proposals for the site". It was also agreed or strongly agreed by 71% that the site is no longer sustainable for purely employment use. The provision of a H&SCC on Rendham Road was very strongly supported with 85% in agreement or strong agreement. The need for affordable housing for local people was similarly strongly supported with 75% agreeing or strongly agreeing with the statement that "The area is in need of housing that is affordable for local people".
Although various issues were raised on specific points such as the capacity of water supply and sewage systems, only one principal issue was raised by a wide number of respondents and that relates to the safety of the junction between the A12 and Rendham Road. As a result we are in discussion with the Highways Authority on this subject.
Finally, the comments made by people attending the exhibition to representatives of Capital Associates and NLP were very positive in line with the responses to the questionaires.
